I'm starting this blog for purely selfish reasons. I want to be able to say what I feel and not be told I'm wrong. Now I may be wrong... but I don't want to hear it sometimes. So... for my first blog I am going to tell you the things that are driving me crazy or that I find just outright outrageous.
For starters....
The real housewives of Orange County/New York/New Jersey/Atlanta - Seriously? Who wants to see a bunch of spoiled women with too much time on their hands trying to live out their old dreams of being on TV? If they were truly talented at "acting" then they would have been signed on to a movie or TV show in the late 80's when they were in their prime. Some of these women are in their late 30's and they look so much older because of all of the plastic surgery, tanning, bad weaves and wigs, and application of makeup using a shotgun and spackle brush.
Instead of whoring themselves out to the over zealous reality TV genre maybe they should try to grow themselves in a real way. Maybe they should try to be a role model for their children. Maybe they should realize not everyone was meant for television and movies. Do something great without cheapening yourself.
I won't lie I have watched the Orange County edition and at first it was interesting hearing their stories. Watching Lori meet the man of her dreams and fall in love. It was nice seeing Tammy struggle and raise two daughters but ultimately come out on top. It was fun to watch Vicki be a control freak and watch her try to control the world. It was touching to see Jeana come into her own as her marriage crumbled. THEN they had to go add these other women and cities and they ruined the whole franchise. You can only see so many cat fights before they become old hat and inherently boring television. I honestly TiVo the Bravo shows I want to watch so I can fast forward to through the commercials I hate.
American Apparel - When did the 70's porno look come back in style? Why didn't I get this memo? There were certain styles that weren't revived because they ARE NOT flattering. For instance High wasted shorts cut high on the hips worn with knee highs and a tube top. All your missing is the roller skates, see through plastic visor, and a role as Roller Girl in Boogie Nights. Also... gold lamé stretch pants? Really? That's something trailer trash Betty would wear to the bingo hall on her big night out.
Example....above...
Their web site is also moderately disturbing. I feel like I am looking at some kind of weird porn site and that I should be ashamed. Some of the girls on there are achingly young with their nipples hanging out for the world to see. I have seen pictures of Dov Charney, the Owner and CEO of American Apparel, he looks kind of skeevy. Between the rapist glasses and pedophile mustache I wonder if he should be on a watch list somewhere?
Today's Teenagers - I have a special insight on this... I have two of these beasts. Now, I have to say my children are well behaved, sweet kids. BUT they're still teenagers. I have my complaints with them but I'll keep those private so I don't embarrass them. BUT here are a few things that other teenagers do that drive my batty.
I go into stores and these teenagers waiting on me are so rude. They don't say hello or thank you. I'm lucky if half the time they tell me my total and they look at me like I am growing a penis out of my forehead when I ask how much I need to give them. If I ask for assistance it is the ultimate inconvenience. The teenagers at the drive through are the worst. Seriously when is thrusting my money and change into my hand and handing me my bag 2 seconds later easy? Could I be given a few seconds to at least transfer my change into my wallet before I have to handle the rest of the stuff your throwing out the window at me? Just a thought.
I know the managers of these retail chains and restaurants need to take some credit for their employees bad behavior as do the parents. I am in my early 30's so it wasn't that long ago I was one of them. I remember my boos looking down at me from his little box above the cashier station giving me the stink eye if I wasn't the most friendly polite person EVER to all the customers coming through my line. Maybe he was the exception but I somehow don't think he was. The kids just seem to keep getting more surly and the managers more apathetic. It makes me sad... 20 years from now I am afraid I'll be getting yelled at by the hired help in retail stores if things keep going like they are.
The last thing on my list for today.... Teenage Drivers. Maybe we're all that bad when we start out but I don't remember ever tailgating someone while talking on my cell phone and speeding to the next red light while flipping off the person in front of me. Ok so that hasn't happened but I'm sure it will eventually. I think teenage drivers should all have a shock collar device. If they speed they get shocked. If they follow to close they get shocked. No turn signal...a shock, using a cell phone while driving... a double shock. Being a discourteous driver... your shock collar goes off until you pull over and you have to wait 15 minutes to drive again. Actually I think the shock collar thing would be a good thing for a lot of people but teenagers should try it out first. They are usually healthier and they need allowance. Wear the collar get some money. It could work... I know it could. Now if it just wasn't illegal.
Ok I'm done venting for the day.. I will be back soon to rant some more. Comment, criticize, and enjoy.
